It's coming, the latest in our fave movie listings in different categories and the 'why' behind our choices. We're looking forward to sharing our Five Faves soon...

I know there are so many YouTube movie trailers out there, but this one, we both agree, is quite awesome. Great work, guys!

So as some of you may know, I’m a bit of a TV-aholic. I’m especially bad during the fall when new shows are being introduced and the mid-season replacement time. I could go on and on about the shows I currently love (yes, I am a Lost fan and for those of you who are as well, be sure to check out my good friend Nikki’s blog, Nik at Nite which is BRILLIANT)… I realized there were other things to consider. Yes, I love many of these shows now, but will I love them again and again?

I started thinking… yes, I know a lot of shows that I’ve loved either while they were on the air, or after the fact on DVD, but what would my top shows be that I can honestly say I’ve watched more than once (or twice…).

So here is my top ten list of shows (in no particular order) that I have loved (and watched) on repeated occasions, and know I will do so again.

Roswell
: Okay, so I’m a little biased. I wrote a book on it and all that, but I also co-wrote one on
Alias and it didn’t make this list (although, come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind revisiting that series one day). Why? Because Jason Katims really captured that whole balance between teen angst and well, sci-fi with the first season, and while the second and third seasons had their ups and downs, the ups still won me over. I never tire of Sheriff Valenti’s great rescue at the end of S1.

Damages:
While the world of television is dominated by legal dramas that are either mediocre or at best, overdone, along comes Damages with phenomenal acting and sharp writing. Why? Because it always kept me guessing and handled those twists so brilliantly. I never knew what was coming next, and I’m one of those horrible people who guesses all the time.

Veronica Mars: When this show was cancelled I was crushed. I can say I had my own crushing going on with both Jason Dohring and creator, Rob Thomas (and heck, I loved Kristen Bell and Enrico Colantoni as well). Why? Mystery, humour, drama, intrigue, individual stories and a full story arch, emotional connection with the characters, unique premise… In Vinnie’s words: “Veronica Mars, I’m watching you…”

Buffy/Angel: Nikki got me into the Buffy-verse later in the game, and I have to say thank you to her for that. It’s such a truly unique show and so well acted. Why? Because I was one of those people who said Buffy as a TV show? C’mon. Forget it!” And learned that it was without question, ground breaking. Even the notion of Angel was initially a bit absurd but I fell in love. And if I had to pick? Sorry, Nik. I’d choose Angel.

Californication: When I first saw this series, I didn’t know what I’d think. I mean, any industry sort of show or movie doesn’t really give you the honesty behind it. I had watched Entourage and enjoyed it to some extent (Ari is very funny), but the smug testosterone after awhile turned me off. Californication, however, was totally different. Why? David Duchovny, while a total slut in the series, actually is sympathetic. How, I still don’t know. Maybe it’s the dad thing, or the want-to-reconcile-with-wife storyline… but it’s just awesome.

Dawson's Creek: Yes, those creek kids still keep me entertained. Why? Maybe it’s the idea of reliving the teen years with the ability to actually articulate. Maybe I just love Pacey and Joey’s relationship. What people don’t know is that I don’t own S5 and 6 (the college years, while having a couple of memorable episodes, didn’t do much for me. I didn’t need to follow every conquest of Joey’s or Mitch’s tragic ice-cream death). The good thing is that the finale actually doesn’t require you to have seen those seasons really. Yay!

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: If I had the chance to meet up with these creators, I would consider it a great privilege. These guys have managed to take their politically incorrect selves and made a raunchier version of Seinfeld. Why? Because no matter what sort of mood I’m in, this show makes me laugh and laugh. And "The Nightman Cometh" is sheer genius.

Arrested Development: A show that won many awards and never got the audience it deserved, I am so glad that it got three seasons at least. Why? It is, in many ways, a true ensemble piece, with extreme anti-hero characters that you just can’t help but love. And the narration (unlike in many series) actually works brilliantly. Bring on the feature!

Carnivale: A little-known HBO series from a few years back, this show lasted two seasons and I think is one of the most visually compelling ones I’ve watched. Why? Good versus evil. Carnival life in the Great Depression. It’s dark. It’s got a lot of unusual elements giving it a bit of fantasy flare, and who doesn’t love seeing Michael J. Anderson (the backwards talking little red suit dancing guy from Twin Peaks) as a kick-butt carnival coordinator?

Twin Peaks: I loved it then, and still love it now. Why? Because David Lynch (while I don’t always get his movies) charmed me to no end with this dark yet quirky show. Who killed Laura Palmer? It was without question, the first show that I was hooked on (besides All My Children, but soaps don’t count), and the first show that made me want to write for television. Can I honestly say I understand all of it? No. Do I care? No. Although I don’t think I’ll ever forgive David Lynch for the ending.

Autumn Welcome 03/28/2010

This is exciting! We are finally up and ready to share our thoughts on movies, television and the industry as a whole. Thank you for visiting Autumn Storm Films.

As an intro to us, part of our desire to explore the idea of "Autumn Storm" as a title was the contrast that comes with the brightly coloured leaves of fall and the purple blue sky of an oncoming storm. As complimentary colours, blue and orange are often skipped in the pairings frequently used. Yet they can be exceptionally striking when paired together. Secondly, there was the interesting contrast of Chris and I: on a whole, I tend to like watching more comedies, romantic-themed movies or dramas (and television, of course!), while Chris loves his action/thriller films, along with drama, classics, and horror. Of course, we appreciate all films but let's be honest, we all gravitate towards certain faves.

The interesting thing is that when it comes to story ideas (not always, but often), I tend to think 'thriller' while Chris comes up with fabulous comedy ideas. Opposites, but complimentary. That's us. We are an autumn storm.

Thank you for visiting. Stay tuned for more blogs to come.
R :)
